Slide on surface, volume preserving, resolution independent relax
Relax Pro is a modifier for 3ds Max that smooths meshes while preserving their volume unlike the standard Relax which shrinks them a lot. You can set it to slide vertices over the surface so no volume loss happens.
It is resolution independent, which means that areas with large polygons will smooth the same amount as areas with small polygons. Smart border smoothing prevents the border from expanding or shrinking, a big issue with the standard Relax.
The relax can be controlled by any selection type, soft selection or vertex colors. It also provides control over the smoothing process with smoothing groups.
Here are some of the benefits you get:
- Don't lose volume
- Slide vertices over the surface while relaxing
- Keep borders the same shape while also smoothing them
- Big and small polygons smooth the same amount
Situations in which you would want to use Relax Pro:
- When you want to remove noise or other artifact from you mesh without losing volume
- When you want to even out the edge flow of your models
- When you have a scanned mesh
- When you have a remeshed model
- When you a retopologized model, either manual or automic
- When you have a general modeling task
